Your Questions, Answered

How is BIPA structured?

BIPA runs several seasonal editions each year — Winter, Summer, and Autumn. Each season closes with an Official Selection chosen by our international jury across all categories. Judging is continuous, and winners across the year's selections are announced once a year at our Annual Awards & Screenings in Berlin.

Who can submit to BIPA?

BIPA is open to independent creators worldwide, from first-time makers to established names, across all eight award categories — including narrative and documentary film, television and episodic work, photography and graphic arts, music/fashion/event visuals, experimental and AI-driven media, social and mobile content, and advertising. There are no restrictions on nationality, budget, or production scale.

How do I submit, and what are the fees?

Submissions are handled through Festhome, our official platform, where you'll find the currently open season, its deadline tiers, and entry fees. A single submission enters your work for consideration across every eligible award.

What is Solo Judging?

Solo Judging is a distinct part of BIPA's evaluation process, applied within our Special & Solo Awards section: alongside standard competitive judging, each work is also examined independently against its own components — direction, performance, cinematography, sound, and beyond — with standout elements eligible for the Elemental Excellence Award.

What do selected and winning creators receive?

Official Selections and Winners receive an official BIPA digital laurel and certificate, plus promotion across our channels. Films chosen for screening at our Annual Awards & Screenings in Berlin receive a screening fee — €25 for short films and €50 for features — and the audience present votes directly for the €100 Audience Award.

When are winners announced?

Official Selections are announced at the end of each season. Winners, awards, and screenings take place once a year at our Annual Awards & Screenings in Berlin — a hybrid in-person and online event (next edition: March 2027) — where the year's selected works are celebrated.

Where are BIPA screenings held?

Live screenings take place in Berlin at partner cinema venues, including Brotfabrik Berlin Cinema, as part of our Annual Awards & Screenings, with an online component so audiences worldwide can take part.
